Frank and Francis Dennett

Honorary Alderman Frank Dennett was first elected to the ancient and historic office of Sheriff of Nottingham on 12th. May 1980.
Together with his wife, Honorary Alderman Francis Dennett, they have been instrumental in promoting Robin Hood and the city of Nottingham throughout the world.
In addition to Robin Hood, Frank Dennett has also compiled a history of the Sheriffs and Lord Mayors of Nottingham and comprehensively catalogued the art of T.W. Hammond whose paintings hang in many of our city's most historic buildings.

Very Sad News

It is with deep regret that we received news that former Sheriff of Nottingham Frank Dennett passed away on Friday April 27th 2007.

His funeral was held at St Mary's Church in the Lace Market on 2nd May. As a huge Robin Hood enthusiast, Frank would have appreciated his service being held in this Church which of course featured in the Ballad "Robin Hood and the Monk".

There are few people who have done so much to keep the Robin Hood legend alive as Frank. His enthusiasm for the subject was enormous and many people have been inspired with the stories of our favourite outlaw after meeting Frank and Francis.

Frank was a keen archivist and researched the history of the Sheriff's office right back to when the post was set up in the 15th Century - information which can be found on the Sheriff's pages of this website.

Frank was a good friend to the World Wide Robin Hood Society. We will miss him tremendously. Our deepest condolences go out to Francis and all their family
