"SHERWOOD GLIMPSES"

ROBIN HOOD - as you've never seen him before!

by Mary Shepherd

1. MAGIC MOMENT
A rustle in the leafy woods
Is anybody there?
Your fleeting glance with every chance
But have a forest care!
Especially if you're laden rich
Or riding cruel to hound
A peasant poor, your tooth and claw
Invading hallowed ground!
Forbidden crack of wicked whip
A snarl on terror's way
Till Robin's glade it merry made
With hell to leathered pay!
Abrupt the rein in sudden stop
Commanding order brisk
When beat and flog 'twas not a dog
At terror's parlous risk!
And even if the peasant were
You mustn't brutal thump
Unwritten law, obey it or
Regret a smarting rump!
Eviction spinning whip and all
Invader rubbing dire
Before the heels of scuttled squeals
They fled unfriendly fire!
He'd never pounce the woods again
And neither would my lord
A haughty nose, intrepid close
On Miser's hidden hoard!
Donation glad or forest tax
Young Robin didn't mind
Suffice the sum of ruling thumb
A traveller left behind!
Enough to feed the humble serfs
Their wolf at starving door
He'd merry chase, no time or place
For troops of vengeful yore!
The Sheriff at their slathered head
But not a forest hope
A flash of green and sight unseen
Young Robin's merry rope!
Stampede a-tumbling minus horse
Collective ouch and oww
In swift retreat, their peevish bleat
A-cursing Robin's vow!
Heroic king of Sherwood green
A pledge of dappled peace
The warning clear that far or near
Your battles better cease!
A haven for his faithful friends
Young Robin's merry smile
Of welcome warm, escape the storm
And live in forest style!
So hark and heed a rustle glad
Is anybody there?
The answer kind you'll surely find
But only if you dare!

2. SUMMER SURPRISE
Heroic tale of ages past
The centuries slipping fleet
A merry glade and visit paid
By smirks of smug conceit!
A merchant in the leafy woods
Invader strolling plump
Of whistled tune, by dappled noon
His payment large and lump!
Percentage glad of rotten fruit
The vendor smiling sly
When hobbled cares they trusted wares
Unseen of faded eye!
The widow blind believing all
A silly hag was told
Delicious peach, don't squeeze or reach
Beneath examples gold!
He'd bag them fresh and never mind
If apples somehow oozed
Perfection ripe, it's just the type
And better when they're bruised!
Encouraging his sunny smile
The widow couldn't see
But worry not, suffice he got
A high and handsome fee!
Believe the worm of simple faith
Dispelling seeds of doubt
Exquisite taste, no mess or waste
Maintaining profits stout!
Physician keeping right away
Restored the widow's youth
Attentive knight, believe despite
The crack of wobbled tooth!
Advice she make some lovely broth
Indeed `twas all the same
To vendors class, a sorry pass
If laying hungry claim!
Impossible to ever prove
When sly of clever bribe
You've taken care of wounded air
And Widow's haggling tribe!
Complaint they wouldn't harking heed
However stale the plum
In shrivels pecked, observe inspect
Officials playing dumb!
Triumphant smirk on ferret face
A meeting in the wood
Encounter sly and beady eye
Procedure understood!
No inkling rich of rustles soft
Young Robin sight unseen
A merry nose for widowed woes
And fortune's strutting preen!
Complacent merchant wealthy strolled
The ferret sidling meek
Intrepid band, a rapped command
To give the merry tweak!
Advice they toss a weighted purse
And vendor's glad display
Perfection red in crisping stead
Of market's sad decay!
Replacement rubbed to glossy shine
A pound or make it two
Intrepid three, unheard the plea
For mercy black and blue!
Remainder oozing very ripe
Heroic merry glint
And truth to tell it's just as well
They took the happy hint!
Collective scut of fruity heels
Young Robin's cheeky aim
Believe a splat, no problem that
A forest couldn't tame!
They'd mind their peas and widowed queues
Or woe the oozing grape
When nothing fond 'twas bold beyond
the point of no escape!
Heroic sword on dappled high
Young Robin's cheeky GRRRR
Protected glade, a trick of trade
And yours the flying fur!
Intrepid forest watching staunch
A tale that's just begun
Delicious sack on dappled track
And bribes he'd dizzy spun!
Revised their itch of greasy palm
The widow's glossy share
And never say it's not the way
To run a forest fair!
Immortal rustle dappling glad
A message on the breeze
The here and now of cheeky vow
A merchant on his knees!
Beginning bold in merry woods
So seek! and happy find
Explore a tree and fleeting see
If Robin's just behind!

3. HIGH FLIERS
Benevolent the forest glad
Intrepid leafy calm
Before they tore, the soldier score
Intent on grievous harm!
Stampeding hooves in eagle search
Alert for any sign
To swoop and kill, the heady thrill
Dispatching forest swine!
The story spreading mortal fast
Another in the wood
Reserved of King, on merry wing
A hero bold and good!
Melodic strum of minstrels glad
Incensed the regal frown
Irate of huff and quite enough
Of Robin's young renown!
Intruder vile in regal realms
A saga fading numb
To watch the pound on hallowed ground
By rule of regal thumb!
Avenging howl for merry blood
Ferocious hot and strong
Their royal pursuit, a Norman boot
To right the leafy wrong!
How dare a villain live in peace
Or feed the starving poor
The very thought, unhappy
Court Resulting tooth and claw!
Stampede to wake departed dead
In search of thieving swine
Their kill and slay a-making way
By Norman grace divine!
A peasant spun on humble back
The yeoman's hapless bleat
Of single bound that sudden found
He'd lost his dizzy feet!
Protesting thud in savage wake
Oblivious the lot
Of soldiers keen around between
Disaster's very spot!
Stampeders flooding merry glades
Avenging every right
Emphatic leap to sow and reap
The villains cornered tight!
They'd teach the vile and wicked rogues
To rob a merchant blind
Alas oh dear, the things you hear
Untrue and most unkind!
As if the woods they'd ever pounce
Unsighted as it were
But worry not, avengers hot
In triumph's leafy blur!
Ferocious swipe of Villain New
Before he'd scarce begun
A lesson, friend, you may depend
For Sherwood's wicked son!
Avenging steward brute and mean
Sir Guy of dreadful fame
The troops he fanned, procedure planned
To end a merry game!
Unnoticed warning callous brushed
And even if he saw
Malicious grunt, unwise to hunt
But watch a vengeful roar!
Disaster storming leafy trees
Destroyed the wicked glade
An order brisk with little risk
To Gisburne unafraid!
The soldiers fanning glad ahead
Advantages of rank
Believe him tall, their creep and crawl
Surrounding every flank!
Young Robin trapped in brutal mid
A crunch and rout complete
But what oh what if soldiers shot
The bounds of smug conceit!
Intrepid noose and mind your foot
Unwary little guard
In fullest swing to fetch and bring
The steward panting hard!
Incredulous his dropping jaw
It can't and couldn't be
Not soldier-bats, their dropping hats
From each and every tree!
Collective troops a-dangling green
As up the steward went
In vengeful style, cascading pile
Of pennies that he spent!
The sort of shower young
Robin liked Intrepid silver spin
Of sparkles bright, cling fast and tight
To tales they couldn't win!
Advice a steward hark and heed
The message loud and clear
A merry smile departing while
It cost a steward dear!
Intrepid wave of cheeky hand
The sky! your limit bold
When soaring thus, the pennies plus
A steward put on hold!

4. THERE'S A TAVERN
Historic stretch of leafy green
Young Robin's merry band
Around the bend, donation, friend
Supply on bold demand!
Taxation spilling coffers royal
A-puff the lordly chest
Till Robin's glade it merry made
The most and leafy best!
Intrepid pledge to help the poor
Old peasants meanly trod
By Normans cruel, their golden rule
And sheriff next to God!
Triumphant smirk and sticky palm
Of bribery corrupt
Secluded hall, transaction small
Let no one interrupt!
The Sheriff on his noble way
Or so he gloating thought
Except except, the trees they leapt In Robin's close support!
Surround of leafy villains wild
Manoeuvre very neat
Donation plump of payment lump
My lord in swift retreat!
Avenging troops to no avail
The band they'd never find
Deflated sag, their boast and brag
Forlorn and far behind!
Young Robin sighting profits fat
A thumb in merry jerk
The merchant's peeve and best believe
It's hot and thirsty work!
Relentless grill of summer sun
Along the busy road
Your heave and tug at bounty snug
Indeed a heavy load!
Collective grunt and sweated brow
Suggestion glad of ale
Traditional inn, step lively, spin
A bold and merry tale!
The travellers seeking shelter kind
A keeper's beady eye
Delicious keg on last of leg
But ale in fresh supply!
Magnificent his special House
The finest tasty brew
In rich surround, the bubbles crowned
For me and happy you!
Delicious drop of nectar best
Advertisement of self
On luscious track and never back
Of ageing musty shelf!
The quickest hands you'd ever see
A flash of foaming switch
Mature the cask, no need to ask
Aromas full and rich!
The ale alas it wasn't new
Recycling at its peak
Or somewhat past, young Robin fast
Becoming rather weak!
Intrepid gasp and strangle dire
A-buckling young of knees
The scream of throat and chance remote
For seconds if you please!
Revolting scarce the merry word
The 'keeper smiling bland
Of pennies paid, their passing trade
Already in the hand!
Judicious clink and never mind
If travellers had to go
A trifle soon, let faces prune
Complain of frothy woe!
The Sheriff wouldn't listen stout
Not hot of cunning bribe
Percentage keen and sight unseen
By guard or idling scribe!
Complacent smirk and oily rub
The travellers staggering dire
Direction door in frantic claw
Their tums on churning fire!
Unfortunate to put it mild
Of demons gnawing brute
The strangled rasp and final gasp
Survival very moot!
Judicious chortle smirking broad
Another in his net
A penny dug, the frothing mug
He'd never glad forget!
Beguiling smile of welcome wide
The hand on luscious tap
That never thought a 'keeper ought
Beware a merry trap!
Preoccupied mine gracious host
A shadow moving fleet
Intrepid knock and what a shock
The 'keepers's shooting feet!
Direction cask in slipping skid
Beneath and right below
The pull of plug, delicious glug
On Robin's merry go!
Heroic sack of pennies plus
A 'keeper's lesson stale
Cascading wet and safe the bet
He'd relish lovely ale!
A merry wave from Robin bold
The end! of Beady's run
Of self a taste, no spill or waste
When tails they're cheeky spun!

5. HUNTERS ROYAL
Majestic swish of costly cloak
Excitement in the air
A favourite hound and single bound
The vassal landed square!
Obliging back in lowly bend
And even if it's not
Majestic hoof, deflated OOOF
To cheer pursuers hot!
Triumphant steed on regal way
Retainers flanking keen
Excited face of time and place
A forest stretching green!
Alert the sniff of eager hound
An ignorance of crop
But never mind, not glad behind
The deer in regal drop!
Envisioned trophy nice and big
Triumphant deadly bolt
From regal blue, no problem you
Can't fix by sudden jolt!
The only time he'd ever pause
To flex a boastful smirk
Majestic boot and pose astute
A thumb in regal jerk!
Retainers poised of noble pole
Parade of England's best
The three and four ignoring poor
Old peasants sore oppressed!
Oblivious the regal hoof
To vassals rather lean
Suffice the feast, another beast
Majestic puff and preen!
Uncountable their happy score
If out of fingers plush
But never fret, not regal set
To break the sudden hush!
Expectant forest leafy-still
Attuned the mighty king
Majestic twitch, the pickings rich
In full and regal swing!
Enormous antler shadowed huge
A prick of narrowed eye
The regal ear in eager peer
And fur about to fly!
Incautious beastie finer far
Than any up the pole
Majestic squint, a deadly glint
Not half the regal whole!
Triumphant flex and lick of lip
Retainers standing back
The mine all mine of right divine
On glory's hallowed track!
Majestic tip of stealthy toe
The antler glimpsing fleet
Enormous thing and just the king
To trick its furry treat!
Magnificent the height and grace
Reduced of lengthy lance
A sightless glaze, your day of days
In glory's bold advance!
Renowned the legend spreading plush
A champion indeed
On regal wall, come one and all
To hark and boggling heed!
Majestic smirk forever shrined
On glory's regal scene
The stitch and stitch of hangings which
No doubter could demean!
Resplendent beastie toasted high
A rustle's timely bow
Majestic glint the subtle hint
Of trouble down below!
Judicious bolt a-speeding hot
The squeal and furry thrash
Before a thud and scent of blood
In slaughter's fabled crash!
Triumphant bound of regal heart
Retainers close behind
Collective peer so very near
To seek and happy find!
Majestic glee in hot pursuit
Exultant regal shout
But then oh then the leafy glen
Erupted all about!
Enormous beastie rising huge
The arrow in its paw
Accusing grunt and woe the brunt
Of glory's fearsome roar!
Triumphant smirk a-fading fast
Majestic shrilling bleat
Retainers too, the chosen few
In terror's swift retreat!
Collective scut of frantic heel
No thought and less of care
Alas oh deer if wild career
It tumbled unaware!
ajestic foot and hidden hole
Unhappy monarch prone
A measured Sire, his one desire
To speedily atone!
Ferocious beastie flashing keen
Of very vengeful eye
The arrow snapped, a monarch trapped
Farewell and fond goodbye!
Retainers fleeing certain doom
A howl to spin the dead
Departed long, unhappy throng
In shrieks of gurgled dread!
Gigantic paw a-closing brute
Frenetic regal blur
A-scrambling clear, not his to peer
Beneath unlikely fur!
Unseen young Robin's merry snip
ascading pennies plush
The hidden smile unnoticed while
A monarch had to rush!
Avenging snort that said it all
Unholy shrilling race
Across the poles, the life and souls
Of terror on the chase!
Unheard the monster's cheeky laugh
A wave he never saw
The monarch fleeced of silver feast
Mine host to merry fore!
Expectant peasants flocking glad
Believe! a fabled grin
Heroic tale, the shivers pale
By teeth of furry skin!

6. JOUST FOR FUN
Majestic invitation top
My lords and ladies fair
Forget the rest, a regal pest
If old or worse for wear!
Lascivious his kingly eye
By knight or fabled day
Of trumpets bold, the deeds untold
In glory's glad display!
Believe a parchment gilded royal
And bring your favourite lance
Heroic shield and fine the field
With Harold's battling chance!
Judicious chortle sight unseen
Unfortunate the breed
Of Saxons past, arena vast
A-thrilling wild stampede!
Majestic time and noble place
To stake a gallant bet
Unknown your foe, get set and go
Where live you'd never let!
A hustle royal unnoticed glad
By flocks of rivals keen
Suffice the size of regal prize
On glory's gallant scene!
Collective pop and boggled stare
Indeed a weighty sack
And never mind if deaf and blind
To regal champions black!
Enormous rider seated sleek
He wouldn't hurt a fly
Believe a king and gallant wing
Your wagers tallied high!
Enthusiastic eager lambs
Without a dazzled clue
That dire of fate and muscles great
He'd victims one or two!
Suffice the odds in gladsome race
A favour fluttering bright
Majestic flag a trampled rag
The champion sitting tight!
He'd never beaten trumpets royal
Indeed the very thought
Denial swift to up and lift
Another falling short!
Majestic smirk on regal throne
To win you must compete
And mark it well, whoever fell
A champion wouldn't cheat!
Absurd the mutter rumbling dire
Distinctly sour of grape
Believe a king and gallant swing
Your sword of no escape!
Horrific crunch but worry not
You'll never happy win
nless you play, all throb no pay
For heads in dizzy spin!
Dejected line a-scuffling glum
Uneasy fighters true
A prayer devout and none about
To jump the regal queue!
Impossible to best him black
Excuses rather lame
In swift retreat, unhappy bleat
Would no one play the game!
Majestic pout and challenge loud
Enticing weighty prize
A moment hushed, the rivals crushed
Avoiding regal eyes!
Apologies but calls of home
Demanded urgent care
The fighters pale a-turning tail
Unjust and most unfair!
Disgruntled hand on regal hip
But then, oh could it be
Arrival late and tempting fate
On count of fluttered three!
A gauntlet thrown at strutting feet
Confession if you please
Before he knocked a champion shocked
To weak and jellied knees!
Advice the champion sharpen up
Repaint a yellow spine
Resulting gnash in hurtling smash
By regal grace divine!
Foreshortened break of jumping two
Stampede and deadly hail
But what oh what if someone's got
A champion by the tail!
Retainer stout and grip of iron
The hooves of gritted grate
Til full of count another's mount
It stormed the gallant straight!
Heroic lance a-looming huge
The champion screeching shrill
Reminder pray on thundered grey
It's wrong to callous kill!
Lamenting shriek for mercy kind
Horrific awful THWACK
The dust a-cloud and champion proud
Upon his beetled back!
Triumphant stranger waving bold
No coup de nasty grace
Suffice the prize, the joyful cries
A-sounding near and far!
Heroic bow but best beware
A snap of fingers royal
Stampeding guard and rather hard
The threat of boiling oil!
Malicious monarch most upset
But even regal so
A leafy knight he'd every right
To up and gallant go!
Intrepid flick of gallant hood
A smile and cheeky wink
Heroic sword a-flash toward
Tradition's weighty clink!
To no avail their soldiers hot
Or champion stirring mean
Unhappy curse, the grab of purse
A-sweeping merry clean!
Donation royal and Champion's lot
Collective silver spill
Intrepid spur in speeding blur
Of dale and cheeky hill!
Young Robin bound for home and hearth
Farewell! and fond goodbye
On merry way and never say
He robbed the champion sly!

7. FOX AND HARE
A poacher on the stealthy move
Imperative he net
When hunger great and children eight
They'd never live and let!
Incessant wail from one and all
Another on the way
Indignant wife, eternal strife In search of tasty prey!
A brace dear Lord of rabbits fat
Or even furry-lean
Delicious squeal to set the seal
On platters licking clean!
Alert his squint to right and left
A glimpse of help Divine
The furry scut, no if or but
A-cutting rather fine!
Determined leap and furry squirm
The prize in Father's hand
Until the roar, a 'keeper sore
At fury's gruff command!
Incensed he strode the forest grim
Avenging wrath of God
And rest assured, by axe or sword
He'd never spare the rod!
A poacher dead in gimlet eye
The gleam of metal cruel
Alas oh dear, so far so near
To gathering winter fuel!
Unhand the bunny struggling lorn
Precise his gimlet phrase
Pugnacious jut when hack and cut
He'd mend a poacher's ways!
Ferocious glint assessing swift
No heed of travellers two
Along the road that ill-forebode
A poacher black and blue!
Judicious axe he loving honed
Convenient stump of tree
Befingered snap and ordered rap
On count of vengeful three!
Dejected whimper gruff ignored
A traveller watching bland
The offer kind to honing grind
Or lend a helping hand!
Disgraceful state of poor affairs
He looked with cool disdain
At Poacher Pale, a sorry tale
Against the honest grain
Agreement full from Gimlet Gruff
The third within a week
Impassioned speech and this 'twould teach
A poacher's hide and seek!
Avenging glint in beady eye
Believe a sentence fair
Ferocious grunt but sharp or blunt
His axe it wasn't there!
Incredulous the gimlet gape
A grasp of barren stump
Enquiry bland of size and brand
In Gimlet's beady grump!
The length it mattered not at all
Suffice 'twas bleeping nicked
Alas indeed, no hack less bleed
When dire and meanly tricked!
Belligerent his grumbling moan
The town he'd have to trudge
Replace the lost at parlous cost
In duty's endless drudge!
Unhappy slump 'til Traveller Kind
He offered there and then
The swine to flay, no work all play
Within a leafy glen!
The 'keeper mustn't waste his time
Especially when he'd seen
Another bunch, their furry lunch
With none to intervene!
A mile or two along the road
Around the forest bend
Direction thus, unholy fuss
To speedily amend!
Ferocious trot and far behind
The 'keeper's beady beak
A poacher's howl of doings foul
And havoc's anguished wreak!
Convincing wail he throttled shrill
Complacent gimlet smirk
So good to know on beady go
Another does your work!
Relentless roll of gimlet sleeve
Approaching Robin's curve
A scratch of head in slowing tread
Incensed and what a nerve!
Retracing steps that never found
The grin! that said it most
Young Robin's feast and ten at least
To join their merry host!

8. FOREST TRACKS
A pilgrim on the solemn path
How sore his blistered feet
But soon the goal of life and soul
Success and joy complete!
Salvation in a sainted cloud
Experience indeed
When Very New, the pilgrim true
Without his trusty steed!
Apologetic pat and hug
An explanation kind
That pilgrim pride it couldn't ride
However weak inclinded!
Imperative you weary trudge
Bereft of pilgrim shoes
Your sack of cloth or venal sloth
The plot 'twould wicked lose!
Collective turn of saintly backs
If anybody dared
Approach with pomp, your careless romp
Entirely unprepared!
The heavens frowning very dark
On Pilgrim's lazy sprawl
So watch it, friend, or parlous end
In pride's eternal fall!
A warning grim before he left
Judicious bowl in hand
Perchance to beg, his final leg
Across the sainted land!
Direction south and very soon
He'd leave the forest vast
Enormous trees and zephyr breeze
In damp and chilly blast!
A rustle cool of dripping neck
Amazing where the sun
It smiling sped, the heavens lead
Providing little fun!
Judicious eye on lowers grey
No pilgrim time to waste
A lengthy trip, inclement PLIP
All speed and blistered haste!
He had to reach a refuge soon
The sainted town in sight
Or was it though, alas and woe
A pilgrim error slight!
But never mind or blistered fret
Salvation 'round the bend
Judicious crane, incessant rain
And miles to weary wend!
No hide nor hair of saintly spires
Enormous forest bleak
Dejected sigh, a-split the sky
With thunder's flashing streak!
Horrific clap so very close
A leap of pilgrim heart
The sort of day you'd rather pray
For morrow's kinder start!
Inviting home and cheery fire
But pilgrims couldn't fold
Bedraggled tents, not stalwart gents
Advancing brave and bold!
Forbidden thoughts he banished swift
A-squaring shoulders chill
Before he stopped, his penny dropped
By shadows boding ill!
A rustle green and villain brute
Appearance rather wild
From nowhere fleet, in vain the bleat
Of blisters meek and mild!
Ferocious rogue demanding mean
A pilgrim's wealthy all
Or woe his sword, unjust reward
In slaughter's hapless sprawl!
To no avail your sack and cloth
Disguises any fool
Could mortal pick in scowling thick
Of breaking every rule!
Befingered snap but what indeed
Another villain green
Intrepid scold, Will Scarlet told
To leave a pilgrim lean!
Unthinkable his rob and steal
On Pilgrim's weary way
A friendly smile, not Robin's style
On that or any day!
Suggestion glad he join their feast
The traveller parlous worn
By distance great, advice he wait
Til morning's rosy dawn
It couldn't make a difference huge
Temptation very plain
But large of sigh he must defy
The wind and chilly rain!
A pilgrim couldn't stop and rest
Especially sainted near
The fabled town, that jewel of crown
For penitents sincere!
Noblesse oblige to travel on
But what! oh sob distraught
If journey's span 'twas further than
A pilgrim ever thought!

9. CANTERBURY TAIL
Incredulous the pilgrim's gape
It can't and couldn't be
The weeks and weeks of narrow squeaks
Before a bended knee!
Contrition praying safe and sound
Away from nasty shocks
Marauder met or awful threat
Of plague and wicked pox!
A hungry wolf by darkest night
The rain in rivers brown
Horrendous list before his tryst
It trod the sainted town!
Suspicion young of trickled tear
Eternity of woe 'Til Robin said, in lonely stead
Together we will go!
Intrepid escort very kind
A-forging hill and dale
Delicious feast the merry least
Upon the sainted trail!
Collective toast and bold refreshed
They'd greet an early lark
On gallant way so come what may
He'd make a pilgrim's mark!
Revitalised their new recruit
The miles a-flashing fleet
Companions green, a pilgrim keen
Success so very sweet!
The distant spire and feeling warm
A shake of Robin's hand
But nothing loath he'd take the oath
For self and merry band!
Intrepid villain rather glad
He'd made the journey long
When high the time of merry crime
To right a sinner's wrong!
Convincing words and kindly smile
That didn't ever say
They'd better guide a pilgrim's pride
In case he lost the way!
Triumphant leap of pilgrim joy
A stream of detour slight
Severe the test, your east from west
Confusion's puzzled knight!
Bewildered scratch but never mind
Intrepid merry lead
Perchance a street, step lively meet
Salvation's sullen bead!
Alas oh dear and goodness grace
Young Robin's mid of track
Collection large, their sainted charge
Of heaven's hefty whack
Donate or find another saint
How mean their manners crude
A pointed thrust and give you must
To bishops smirking shrewd!
Collective clink a-costing heaps
And what on heaven's earth
Another sly, his beady eye
Assessing Robin's worth!
The boy he sent from altar's side
How low could any get
Cathedral host and making most
Especially sore beset!
Judicious glint and oily rub
When sinners shouldn't leave
Or not before they're really sure
Of heaven's scant reprieve!
Unfortunate if Robin's soul
It lost a silver shine
Suggestive alms, their hymn and psalms
To draw the wicked line!
Avuncular and pious smirk
Alerting sacred troops
If Robin went, a sinner bent
On vengeful soldier whoops!
Ferocious howl for merry blood
Donation's every right
All haste and speed and never greed
By dark and shadowed night!
But Robin couldn't know or guess
Oblivious his smile
Along the path to home and hearth
Beset by wicked guile!
Avenging soldiers mortal close
Malevolent their creep
On vengeful prowl, ferocious howl
Of trouble parlous deep!
The night they tore with fearsome cries
No hope of fighting free
Surrounded dire, unfriendly fire
On count of pious three!
Prepare to meet a villain's end
Until a shimmer pale
It caught them square of hackled hair
In terror's frantic wail!
It couldn't be but there it was
Renowned the fabled face
A single peek and shrill the shriek
Departing time and place!
A saintly boot on scuttled heels
And look! but don't delay
Collective OWW the story how
St Thomas saved the day!

10. HANGING AROUND
Stampede of horses racing wild
Eruption leafy-green
Before you knew a soldier who
Was sight and best unseen!
Enormous brute in grim advance
Young Robin's little hope
Beneath the arm of sticky palm
And lots of savage rope!
Reward for Robin's merry head
Remainder hog and tied
On brutal way, hip-glad-hooray
Parade and woe betide!
Spectators lining every street
Collective eager crane
The Sheriff's preen and sentence mean
Gigantic ball and chain!
Enthusiastic soldiers brute
The lots they nasty drew
To sign and seal a dirty deal
For slaughter's chosen few!
Repulsive dungeon sliming foul
Another happy guest
Derisive shove, no velvet glove
When ridding such a pest!
A chortle mean from high above
Young Robin far below
Convincing clank, their prisoner dank
In peril's direst throe!
Gigantic ball and wicked chain
Or dangle by the thumb
Obliging screw if comers new
They played at deaf and dumb!
Polite request of spilling bean
Confederates if you please
The who and where to kindly spare
A maiden's iron squeeze!
Delightful hug and warm her spikes
But Robin only said
Their stars of five a filthy dive
That wouldn't catch him dead!
Desist and change the smelly straw
Repair the plumbing damp
Unpleasant clime, their seeping slime
Intolerable of clamp!
Or better still release him bold
The hug he'd do without
Returned their ball, a damaged fall
Complete of rusty rout!
'Twas dented dire and quite unfit
To grace their chamber best
Complaint of flow, a sorry show
Young Robin unimpressed!
Emphatic point at something vile
The manager, I pray
Contentious bone and soldiers stone
They'd better swift obey!
Collective gape and puzzled scratch
Unused their tiny brain
To prisoners curt objecting dirt
And fragrances of drain!
Whatever should a soldier do
Young Robin's answer fleet
Mistaken stall, step lively call
Their sergeant's dragging feet!
Complaint he'd better swift amend
And as for dangling THAT
Release I say or woe the day
Of Judgment knocking flat!
Beheaviour very Christian-poor
Believe a lecture stern
The soldiers meek, their sergeant sleek
To live and slimy learn!
Incredible but there you were
Complaint he'd better fix
Befuddled blink and swift the twink
Of Robin's merry tricks!
Judicious grab and leafy seize
Resistance short and sweet
A key to all the danglers tall
Manoeuvred rather neat!
Release of smelly dungeon dank
Salvation's slimy stair
Traditional feast and fatted beast
The Sheriff cornered square!
Aghast he gulped his looted hall
Collective snatching horde
The locust thing on forest wing
Of bed and mouldy board!
Young Robin's merry fleeting wave
Advice! he offered free
Repair remove or like improve
And then he'd have to see!

11. BISHOP'S MANTLE
Befitting sermon nice and long
A-cringe the godly flock
Request for alms, the subtle charms
Of future's nasty shock!
Damnation licking fiery flames
The rich and camel's eye
Believe a thump, no sinners plump
In heaven's sainted sky!
Donate and save a mortal soul
Before you've missed the boat
Impressive clink when peril's brink
It offered chance remote!
Perdition hot on wicked heels
A sizzle Down Below
If any dared, oh sin despaired
To hoard the direst woe!
Almighty clap of thunder fierce
The eagle poising sharp
Horrific end you may depend
If singed your sainted harp!
Intent the gaze on trembles pale
Salvation digging deep
A blessing kind and out of mind
The flock of shivered sheep!
Sententious smile on silver way
Benevolent and smart
Especially when a merry glen
It took to leafy heart!
Impassioned tale of starving serfs
The wolf at hungry door
Believe a tear, the trial severe
Of feeding England's poor!
Disaster plagueing parlous pox
Young Robin listening mute
The story cruel, a-scoop their pool
In clinks of merry loot!
Donation green on pious path
Impressed the whistle soft
Direction town to happy crown
Devotions Up Aloft!
Divine the pennies firmly clutched
And just as sainted well
Inside a shop, the lengthy stop
Befitting yonder cell!
Traditional bare of chilly boards
A bed of hardest nail
Or so we'll say, no curtains gay
On heaven's sainted trail!
The humblest sack a-hanging limp
Prudential hasty glance
Of hidden nook, devoted crook
And seizing every chance!
Complacent smirk caressing fond
Revered the object d'art
He'd newly bought, so finely wrought
From near or sainted far!
Unseen the fleeting merry glimpse
Donation wondering why
A cleric kind he couldn't find
Starvation's hungry cry!
Beseeching serf in leafy woods
No bishop had he seen
Except the one on shadowed run
Of clutch and hidden sheen!
Young Robin moving very fast
A swift and silent peek
The pious dump surrounded plump
By artistry antique!
Complacent sort of velvet foot
Upon its table fine
A spill of cash and ruby splash
In brims of lovely wine!
Delicious pheasants bracing moist
Expectant smack and slurp
The crowning touch a trifle much
When loud his fruity burp!
An object d'art on dangled knee
Young Robin seeing red
Temptation great but better wait
'Til snug in feathered bed!
Complacent snort and snuffle fruit
A silent tipping toe
The objects nine to out and shine
On Robin's merry go!
Concealment cloaking darkness kind
The slip of pious door
A muffled clank and snorer blank
To pennies swift and sure!
Unseen the silent merry wave
Farewell! and never think
That wages sin they couldn't grin
And bear a weighty clink!

12. THIS LITTLE PIG
A monarch in his castle dull
Distressing decor old
His last of year and regal fear
Of moth in every fold!
Majestic squint at hangings wall
The dire and awful truth
A battle royal in mortal coil
And flap of wings uncouth!
Unbearable the very thought
Dejected brush of sleeve
The shabby cloak that crual bespoke
Disaster's scant reprieve!
How limp it hung the shoulders royal
Bedraggled mangy trim
Majestic sigh, a jaundiced eye
On coffers bare and grim!
Resplendent banquet costing heaps
A wife of lavish taste
Alas oh dear the need severe
For speed and silver haste!
Taxation on the regal rise
Indeed the only way
To renovate a vast estate
Of come what costly may!
Majestic proclamation bald
In vain their wring of hand
The nobles poor and yeomen more
Than tight of cornered land!
Appraisal swift and watch it, oaf
If any disagreed
Judicious blade a-putting paid
No use to beg or plead!
Triumphant coffers clinking glad
Enormous regal guard
Ensuring that a thieving rat
He'd find it rather hard!
The swine he didn't sly exist
To break defences tall
Believe a glare, look out beware
If any came to call!
Ferocious horde of muscled brutes
The turrets bristling high
Reluctant queue, the yeomen who
Were bleeding parlous dry!
A different tune for nobles rich
Delay and absent lord
They'd pay the tax if only facts
Agreed on bed and board!
Minute the castle cited large
Attorney neatly sworn
The regal fit of costly writ
To manors nobly born!
Exception waiving richer lads
Unlike the yeoman plod
Complaining lean, a forest green
To spare the silver rod!
Unhappy plea to Robin young
Restore the status quo
Or something same, in heaven's name
Reduce their humble woe!
The nobles lording hunger dire
Enormous wealth inside
A slam of gate, eternal wait
Admission cruel denied!
Expectant raise of yeoman face
Young Robin thinking deep
In Robin's glen, not if but when
They stormed the silver keep!
A trifle hard but never mind
He'd find a merry way
The don of braid and unafraid
No pause or rich delay!
Pretense of noble home sweet home
Alas that didn't quite
Forbidding wall, the order tall
Distinctly impolite!
Omnipotent and bristling troops
Suspicion's nasty flare
Their lips a-curl, unknown the churl
Look out and best beware!
Taxation doing regal rounds
Deposit down below
Convenient slot, young Robin not
Exactly on the go!
Intractable the brutal guard
Retreating noble grand
Forgotten purse, how cruel perverse
The spy of Robin's land!
Impossible their stingy view
Unless ... you're old and bent
A seller lone, the ageing crone
And stock she couldn't dent!
Dispirited her blisters dire
The trays in hobbled claw
Unwanted pies, their shape and size
Condemned of hidden flaw!
Unfit for man or hapless beast
Except for Nanny's goat
Exchange of glance, a nudging lance
To rock the ancient boat!
Collective smirk and lick of lip
The soldiers closing mean
In vain her cry that every pie
'Twas old and tingeing green!
They mustn't grab or mortal snatch
Remainder's soggy crust
The choicest flesh no longer fresh
And juice you couldn't trust!
The worst she'd ever croaking made
But sad to scant avail
When soldiers knew a thing or two
On hunger's grandest scale!
Inflated sense of crusty worth
They'd seen it all before
Denial pat, her profits fat
By tooth and gratis claw!
Stampede a-cramming morsels moist
Companions making free
Alas betide if true and tried
It's all for greedy me!
Objection hot and pointed scow
Advice he jolly share
The chew and chomp of tasty romp
Enjoying flavours rare!
Traditional morsels juicing pink
Until a sudden clutch
On hallowed ground it mortal found
Results a trifle much!
Unusual taste and clear the path
Disaster's strangled leap
Another queue, their staggers blue
Of face and trouble deep!
Lamenting plea to HURRY UP
Exactly what she did
By grunt and groan the ageing crone
And hooves in merry skid!
Majestic cart of coffers glad
A-speed the silver loot
Refunded tax a-making tracks
No threat of mean pursuit!
Collective groan on clutching hop
Impossible to race
And never say they didn't pay
For trotters on the chase!
Intrepid smile and cheeky wink
Farewell! and fond goodbye
Departing fleet the special treat
In each and every pie!

13. CALL TO ALMS
Inclement howl of winter's worst
It can't and couldn't be
But rain and sleet they chilly beat
On puddles making free!
Beware a merry ankle damp
The trees in pelting drip
Intrepid fire a-spluttering dire
Will Scarlet's slide and slip!
Returned the hunter bare of hand
A shrug and oinking squeal
That wasn't bleak, the narrow squeak
In hunger's chill appeal!
Unhappy villain fainting frail
Protesting Brother Tuck
In vain a pot of nothing hot
When out of merry luck!
The forest stretching parlous lean
And even wicked worse
Starvation's poor, their wolf at door
In chilly times perverse!
Dejected line of faces pinched
A plea of little use
If bare the glen and merry men
They'd cooked the golden goose!
Their profits draining trotters rich
With prices on the rise
Believe it twice, the wind and ice
A-melting silver pies!
Inclement splut and what oh what
Could Robin gallant do
Deserted road, no tasty load
On target plump and true
The merchants staying wise at home
A rumour pelting chill
Severe the storm, in safety warm
They'd ride the tidings ill!
In vain a lonely sentry damp
'Til shadows sleeting grey
They parted slight, majestic knight
Upon his regal way!
Excited whoop and swift descent
Perchance a soggy crumb
Collective sigh, I see and spy
Subsiding rather glum!
Majestic traveller minus food
A rider built for speed
Intrepid prick, young Robin quick
To hark and merry heed!
Advice he spill the regal beans
Or something much the same
The pointer broad of merry sword
Excuses rendered lame!
A warning dire and spill he did
Starvation parlous rife
Advisers loyal, their conference royal
To curb the rumbling strife!
Believe a hand on regal heart
The delegation sworn
To helping drab old peasants grab
Provisions night and morn!
Report they'd send to regal John
Quadruplicate of care
On selfless track, no turning back
Salvation's who and where!
Deserving peasants once for all
Believe a rider swift
The jig of rein and message plain
If short of hungry shrift!
Alerted nobles hastening fleet
Resplendent cloaks of gold
Collective lords a-prance towards
Their conference fully sold!
A hunting lodge the perfect spot
For nobles high and dry
Enormous fire and shivers prior
Debating where and why!
Effusive goblets toasting warm
Expenses waddling fat
A generous king, in fullest swing
The chit of regal chat!
Majestic toast on every brim
Unfortunate the poor
But really, friend, you can't defend
Their indolence of yore!
We'll throw a bone but make them work
Another's fervent nay
When conference royal it mustn't spoil
Or tempt them sore astray!
A lazy lot he'd bring to heel
In brims of ruby wine
Judicious slurp, discreet his burp
To toe the rumbling line!
Delicious feast and greasy wipe
Discussion flowing free
Their work to rule, reception cool
For labour's little fee!
You couldn't pay a peasant dumb
Whatever would he do
With ready cash, absurd and rash
In Pudgy's pointed view!
Distinct the sniff of proud disdain
A shrug of heavy cloak
Discussion hot, the fool or clot
Suggesting such a joke!
Companion rather heated too
Why ever should they feed
The filthy scum, enormous sum
A sop to peasant greed!
Indignant toss of plushy fold
And belt he loosened plump
Their supper large, no extra charge
For fists in angry thump!
Discussion very warm indeed
The fling of antler'd head
Obliging peg, make peasants beg
Their wretched daily bread!
Emphatic fist that never saw
Or glimpsed a shadow swift
Not fleet inside, convenient hide
To catch the noble drift!
Deceased the deer but surely eyes
They'd twinkled young behind
A glassy glaze, disputed blaze
The nobles deaf and blind!
Collective cloaks a-sailing free
For someone's merry all
A heated curse and pudgy purse
Unnoticed on the wall!
Ingenious flash of furry arm
A snip and covert clink
The nobles cross, uncaring toss
Young Robin's merry blink!
Gigantic purse a-landing right
Upon a furry nose
Discreet the paw a-whisking more
Than any might suppose!
Oblivious the warm debate
Quadruplicate of glare
A burning coal as Robin stole
Their exit unaware!
Donations hot on silver way
The woods! and whistled snatch
Of cheeky song, suspicion strong
They'd met their merry match!

14. FRAGRANCE STEALING
Magnificent the castle grand
A sheriff's joy and pride
Traditional feast and one at least
In full and lavish stride!
Judicious day of happy days
Taxation freshly dug
In silver bed, commission dread
Beneath a regal rug!
Complaining nobles out of mind
A delegation sworn
Dismissed at sight, not his the fight
Concerning pennies lorn!
Their horse had bolted stables plush
The door a trifle late
Complacent smirk and hard at work
He gloated vast estate!
Taxation doing very well
And thanks to losses fool
A sheriff warned he hadn't scorned
The threat of robbers cruel!
Impregnable their city wall
Enormous weighty grille
Gigantic lock and crimson block
Foreboding parlous ill!
Expectant axe if any dared
To set a wicked toe
Inside the door, intrude and score
A howl of crimson woe!
Pathetic pleas to no avail
The wife and children eight
Judicious snort and head they brought
Upon a Yuletide plate!
Traditional time to deck your hall
Sing hi and holly green
Departure shrill to fit the bill
Of England's merry scene!
Complacent smirk and oily rub
Let others glad report
The whinging poor a frightful bore
Absurd the very thought!
Enough to drive a reasoned chap
To dire and ruby drink
Judicious toast, mine gracious host
And coins in merry clink!
Triumphant sweep of silver hand
The King on regal way
Majestic fete, the time and date
To make a sheriff's day!
Luxurious the chamber royal
A scrub and rushes new
Of flowers a bowl, in fine control
The Sheriff staunch and true!
Complacent sip of rubies glad
Their monarch's favoured brand
But what oh what, aroma not
Exactly as he planned!
Unbidden hint on stealthy creep
A-twitch his ruby nose
Majestic court, the very thought
If ringed of certain rose!
It couldn't be but there it was
Aghast his frantic peek
A rising tide, his great divide
In havoc's murky wreak
Traditional moat on rampage royal
Aromas hitting hard
The turrets high, despairing cry
From each and every guard!
Collective gasp and choking swoon
Remainder issued fleet
Judicious hank, their thinning rank
Denied a swift retreat!
The Sheriff barking orders brisk
Obey and never mind
Aromas slight but try as might
They staggered deaf and blind!
Calamitous their lurching croak
Damnation's royal parade
And what of HIM, a prospect grim
Beset and cruel betrayed!
Majestic turn of scented back
Apologies ignored
Irate his curse and even worse
A sheriff to the sword!
Traditional presentation red
Your all in crimson spurt
Alas indeed unless you freed
The city parlous girt!
Aromas ripe in other words
Unhappy gnawing nail
In vain a prod with pole or rod
A prayer to no avail!
Emergence dire of wintry sun
How warm its golden ray
Revolting smell and hark ye well
The King on regal way!
Majestic message scrolling mean
Whatever could he do
The Sheriff wan a dying swan
Without a single clue!
Disaster 'round the regal bend
Solution one and sole
A messy end you may depend
But spared of crimson roll!
Unhappy perch of turret high
Afraid to even look
Ensuing leap in trouble deep
If heights you couldn't brook!
The fall alas and sudden stop
A palsied shiver-shake
Withdrawal quick, the Sheriff sick
No lie and less mistake!
Solution wrong as any knew
Condemned by Those Aloft
But what oh what if others got
A whiff of fragrant waft!
Dilemma vile on regal way
The panic stark and pure
On scented rise 'til muffled cries
They parted smells mature!
Alert the guard despite their choke
Arrival at the gate
A laboured team to curb the stream
Of peril's direst strait!
By merest chance they'd caught a whiff
Perceived a problem cruel
Of sluggish moat, their merry quote
To clear the murky pool!
Miraculous appearance glad
And no he didn't bat
A single eye, not high and dry
Relieved of smelly THAT!
Acceptance on the scrolling dot
Traditional time and half
Their premium of largish sum
Concerning special staff
Percentage keen of rata'd pro
The holidays you see
They would have had if toiling glad
For months of two or three!
Their journey long outside the hour
A sheriff didn't care
Suffice the spade a-putting paid
To Something in the air!
Present the bill at happy end
Cascade and prudent flush
Direction field, the problem sealed
In payment's merry rush!
Percentage plus a tiny tip
Unnoticed taxing chest
A merry wave departing brave
By popular request!
Another town in trouble dire
The words! he carefully chose
Omitting hot they'd blocked the lot
Before it ever rose!

15.'TIS THE SEASON
Resplendent castle towering tall
Incumbent smirking proud
Of busy quill, no rest until
You've summoned quite a crowd!
Traditional time of happy year
An invitation rich
To noble all, a hallowed hall
In triumph's merry switch!
Their King he'd come and quickly gone
Remaining little hint
But never mind, not sealed and signed
By triumph's happy glint!
Replaced their taxes hard at work
The vassals scrubbing brisk
Traditional gleam, a busy team
At nothing's merry risk!
Impregnable their city wall
As everybody knew
And cleaned the street, removal fleet
Of beggars shivered blue!
Distressing sight at any time
So whisk them all away
A dungeon dank, their shorter plank
If shivers won't obey!
They'd pleaded for a warmer spot
Collective pretty please
Consent no less, God speed and bless
The lice and happy fleas!
Traditional thump and Norman boot
Ensuring merry peace
The upper crust rewarded just
Their fingers dripping grease!
Expansive nobles glad of clink
Enthusiastic lot
A-toasting high, their limits sky
Discussion clean forgot!
Impossible to ruby brood
A jester's hop and skip
Collective nudge and never grudge
Another little sip!
The Sheriff talking very big
Expanded city bold
Oh yes indeed, support he'd need
Advantages untold!
Believe the cream of pudge elite
Percentages and more
If backed of raid, their gilded braid
To England's gallant fore!
Investment reaping harvests huge
Proposal big and good
And by the end, believe it, friend
Of COURSHE they nobly would!
Traditional pledges brimming glad
A hand on bulging heart
Discreet the HIC of battle thick
And glory's leading part
Scenario envisioned brave
So even those who'd sent
Apolgies, they came to seize
The chance to glad repent!
Arrival racing castle stairs
Another's happy tread
Make way and room, a feathered plume
In letters large and red!
Resplendent noble very plush
Magnificent his style
The end of queue but you-know-who
Relaxed of merry smile!
Traditional greeting one and all
Well hail and hearty met
A check of door, no worries for
The reveller ready-set!
My lords of tick and crossing line
A steward's busy pen
The herald glad, endearing lad
And flick of pages ten!
Arrival missing somewhere dire
The noblest and the best
A hasty glance, no song and dance
However sorely pressed!
His name it must be hiding plush
Announcement nice and loud
Resplendent lord, his dress assured
A-mingling with the crowd!
The Sheriff beaming smirk to smirk
And wasn't it a shame
He noticed not that numbers shot
The price of merry fame!
Resplendent lord embracing all
You must remember me
A friendly sip and cheeky snip
That can't and couldn't be!
Bewildered clutch of purseless side
The Sheriff's whispered ear
Unhappy frown, beleaguered town
Alas and gracious dear!
Suspicion mean and very cruel
Disaster's hasty scan
Official guests, their noble crests
Exact to brimming plan!
Traditional list in cheesy hand
The truth a-dawning hard
When two and two make five and you
Can't find a single guard!
Collective clink and chatter loud
A-dart his frantic eyes
But not a hope he'd seize or rope
Young Robin's cheeky guise!
Resplendent duke or feathered plume
In vain! a strangling sob
And thwarted wail, historic tale
Of rubies on the job!

16. CHRISTMAS KNIGHT
Traditional howl of winter's worst
A jolly season chill
Or so we'll say, make haste and way
Foreboding parlous ill!
A merchant speeding icy roads
Unwise in rain and sleet
But there he sped, a forest fled
By hooves in hasty beat!
Retainers flanked at pudgy side
Young Robin's rueful sigh
Departure fast and pennies past
The point of no goodbye!
'Twas hardly fair when hungry wolves
They howled at Robin's door
Despite a snip in starving grip
Of peasants wanting more!
Donation showering abbey flocks
The ones they went and bought
Increase of price, how very nice
If finding chilly nought!
A fearless hunter sad in vain
The shrug that said it all
Young Robin's turn, his live and learn
To deck a happy haul!
Requirement food on icy way
Donation if you please
Except except the woods they slept
In winter's parlous freeze!
No sight nor sign of merchants new
A shivering forest bride
Young Robin bold a trifle cold
Their supper long denied!
But then oh then a muted clink
Salvation 'round the bend
A merry smile, donations while
We fix and merry mend!
Relieved the heavy burden gold
Or so he'd hopeful thought
'Til Robin saw the peasants poor
Where peasants never ought!
A struggling drift and woe indeed
The wife with hapless child
Horrific plight, their may or might
Beset by tempest wild!
Young Robin springing glad to help
The explanation grim
A greedy lord, traditional sword
Eviction's sink or swim!
Belongings few he'd booted cruel
And now her time had come
No roof or bed or tiny shred
Of comfort's chilly crumb!
They'd perish dire but Robin bold
For such he'd never stand
Of single mind he'd shelter find
Discreet and smiling bland!
Traditional tavern modest hailed
The dust of weary snow
Disarming grin a-wanting inn
And explanation so!
My lord and wife a-travelling plain
Prudential little ruse
Of covert clink, disarming wink
That couldn't merry lose!
Pretense no less of riches hid
Beneath a humble guise
Their servants apt, the 'keeper rapt
Applauding measures wise!
Traditional bow and humble scrape
The dawning rather hard
If nil of pence he hastened whence
And fetched a nasty guard!
Imposter dragged by humble scruff
But heaven would provide
Or so he hoped, young Robin roped
By slips of icy slide!
Impossible the howling storm
Especially when she lay
The peasant poor awaiting more
Than Season's happy day!
A muffled groan they couldn't leave
Young Robin thinking deep
Of empty purse, the troops perverse
In wild and savage leap!
Disaster chill so what on earth
Or heavens watching kind
A silence mute 'til large the boot
It thundered deaf and blind!
Almighty thump of tavern door
Whoever could it be
Young Robin's crane, the harsh terrain
And pudgy merchants three!
They'd lost their way in snowy howls
Collective push and shove
Direction fire and righteous ire
At sainted realms above!
Damnation taking seasons chill
Despite the extra trade
A grumbled grouch, no bed or couch
For others, I'm afraid!
Dismissive jerk of haughty thumb
Young Robin and the rest
The peasant two and bundle new
They glowered unimpressed!
Emphatic gesture very clear
The three on haughty own
Their warmth entire of privileged fire
And seeds already sown
Young Robin trudging cruel defeat
But not for very long
Determined that usurpers fat
They'd right the heinous wrong!
Return of window fleeting peeked
When Robin he had found
A stable dry, its muted cry
In safety warm and sound!
Intrepid leg he merry eased
The sill and slumbered heap
Of ruby snorts, their quarts and quarts
So peacefully asleep!
Triumphant and easy snip
The pennies flowing gold
A touch of spice and scented nice
They braved the chilly cold!
Traditional all for tiny one
God bless! and merry speed
When faith it pays, the means and ways
A merchant didn't need!

17.HOLE IN ONE
Efficient clomp of iron boot
A soldier on the beat
Without a thought he really ought
To watch his clumsy feet
Impregnable their castle proud
But what was furry that
Beloved wall, the scuttle small
A mouse or was it rat!
Unknowing guard on heedless round
The rodent's fertive quest
He hadn't spied, his booted stride
Completely unimpressed
An eye upon the castle bell
Relief and hungry bite
The hours a-snail, inclement gale
Attacking impolite!
Ferocious howl of icy wind
All haste and pelting speed
A tunic short, poor soldier caught
Where sentries didn't need!
Unhappy plod a-cursing damp
No wonder that he missed
The scuttle moot in hot pursuit
Of supper's tasty tryst!
A century or freezing two
Before the weary dawn
Remorseless grey, another day
He wished he wasn't born!
Alas oh dear but then oh then
The soldier's sinking heart
And blisters raw they boggling saw
Damnation's furry dart!
Incredulous his startled gape
It can't and couldn't be
Not furry paws on scuttling fours
A-making parlous free!
Disaster twitching whiskers sly
For who could ever know
Beside the crack of ruin's wrack
How far they'd furry go!
Calamitous the rodent pair
Tomorrow's scuttling score
A month or three, unholy glee
Of thousands in the raw!
Alarm he raised on urgent trot
A point and bleak report
Official frown, intruders brown
At England's favourite court!
Horrific tale denoting dire
Officials most upset
A steward tall, his creep and crawl
Perchance to happy net!
The Sheriff's gnaw of worried nail
Sir Guy on searching knees
Indeed a crack, no turning back
For grab and vengeful seize!
Determined steward poising tense
A club in stalwart hand
Remaining guards by measured yards
Reception very grand!
They'd swat the beasts intruding sly
Believe a serried line
The hundreds bold defying cold
Come rain or happy shine!
Undaunted soldiers armed to teeth
Sir Guy and sheriff brave
Awaiting grim, the shadows dim
Alive and threatening grave!
Relentless watch by darkest night
And wasn't it a shame
They didn't hark an early lark
When Robin merry came!
Horrific rumour spreading fast
Young Robin's merry glade
Defences sick, decision quick
To offer friendly aid!
A forest band in swift approach
Salvation's cheeky wink
The rats they'd flush from regions plush
And peril's very brink!
Intrepid warning scuttled soft
Their opposite of wall A forest rope with every hope
Of decking someone's haul!
Engrossed the soldiers waiting chill
Perhaps a trifle lax
To leave it thus, the silver plus
A lot of regal tax!
Young Robin swooping sacklets bold
A grin! and cheeky wave
Exact amount and closed account
The only way to save!

18. WITH THIS RING
Stampede of soldiers wild and brute
Direction parlous straight
A sheriff's whim and chances slim
To flee the happy date!
A solitary sheriff lone
How chill his empty bed
Dejected toss emerging cross
In slumber's blessed stead!
He hadn't slept a tiny wink
Forlorn and sore dismayed
A spectral bump and shadowed thump
Beneath the blankets frayed!
Unfair it was and most unkind
A-shiver and a-shake
Before he thought a sheriff ought
The plunge to happy take!
Beloved wife at sleeping side
Her sword to ready hand
Departing ghost and ruby toast
At slumber's glad command!
The patter small of little feet
Paternal chip of block
But how to choose, perchance peruse
The pick of noble flock!
An invitation etching gold
Delicious tasty feast
If young and sweet, a pinch discreet
And glad the timely priest!
Expectant sheriff squinting keen
The pick of noble shire
Or so they'd said of noses red
A-quelling all desire!
Revolting scar or humped of back
The ravages of pox
Too lean or short, the banquet fraught
With dire and awful shocks!
Lascivious the mother grand
A crone of eagle eye
Possessive claw of sheriff poor
Unwise to pass her by!
The toothless leer of ages past
Whatever could he do
Dismissal terse the bad to worse
Of nightly terrors new!
Horrific bump and shadow brute
A heart in frightened mouth
And better not describe the rot
In regions further south!
But then oh then the brilliant scheme
Enchanting forest maid
Already wed but husbands dead
They'd fail the gallant grade!
Objections nil if curled of toe
Ingenious little plan
Stampeders brute in hot pursuit
Of Sherwood's merry man!
Avenging crunch paraded high
A blank and sightless stare
Oh yes indeed, all haste and speed
In Robin's leafy lair!
Judicious sheriff waiting glad
Supply on brute demand
Expectant gleam and quite a team
To spy the merry land!
Stampeders racing leathered hell
A fleeting flutter shy
Triumphant roar, to noble fore
Their captain high and dry!
Alas oh dear but never mind
Remainder speeding fast
A turning bold and lo behold
Your pretty maid aghast!
Surround of soldiers closing brute
Avenging nasty bunch
Across the grass, a pretty pass
In triumph's wicked crunch!
The things a guard he'll sometimes say
Unprintable but then
Whatever if a snuffled sniff
Erupted in the glen!
Exultant sheriff strutting keen
Surprise of nasty life
The damsel hot as up she shot
A-causing merry strife!
Judicious crunch in tight surround
That can't and couldn't be
Not circled dire, unfriendly fire
From each and every tree!
Triumphant smirk a-fading fleet
A scut of worried heel
The hit or miss of wedded bliss
In terror's shrilling squeal!
Unlikely maiden hot of tail
Believe! a merry race
And cheeky smile pursuing while
Young Robin's on the chase!

19. WILD BORE
A forest green in leafing bud
Farewell to winter's worst
Expectant glen, your if and when
To see who's merry first!
Belated breeze but never mind
Not glad of happy feast
A sizzle rare and every care
Delicious tasty beast!
Collective rumbles one and all
Along the leafy track
Perchance a guest, accompany lest
You missed a luscious snack!
Suggestion kind and surely folk
They'd love to merry pay
A tiny fee for vegies three
And roast of Robin's day!
Delicious pig or happy sheep
When seasonal your choice
Whatever strayed a merry glade
Eat up and glad rejoice!
Traditional toast a-crackling moist
A sheriff and the King
Intrepid quirk at cheeky work
Their feast in fullest swing!
Donate and chomp another slice
Hospitable our woods
And there he came, the traveller tame
Complete with laden goods!
Intrepid gleam and merry bow
An invitation green
Advice he stop, a boggled pop
Upset and far from keen!
Disgruntled frown but not for long
Aroma wafting sweet
Assurance glad in case he had
A touch of chilly feet!
No cause my friend for ashen fright
Young Robin to the fore
A forest hand accepted and
Denial swift and sure!
Delicious waft the traveller sniffed
Of course he'd happy stay
Afraid dear chap, what clap and trap
Make haste and bustling way!
Reliance self or maybe God
A cross and pious phrase
The simple faith denying wraith
And peril's parlous maze
Renounced the path of error weak
He'd strongly recommend
Believe and grow, the joyous glow
At jounrey's happy end!
A hand upon the blithest heart
You'd ever hope to find
Oh yes indeed, do hark and heed
Forswear the daily grind!
Complacent little waddle plump
Direction heading straight
Of lengthy tale, believe and hail
Reversal's happy fate!
Example glad of Uncle Tom
Or was it Cousin Phil
His brother Bob, relations mob
To fit the noble bill!
The best of friends 'til parlous er
Of which they'd surely heard
Assumption bland you'd glad command
Of rumour's little bird!
Calamitious their mumbled mumb
How eloquest the smack
Of busy jaws, no rest or pause
A-thrill to Cousin Jack!
He'd seen the Trent or was it Thames
A panoramic view
The slices past, young Robin fast
Regretting Auntie Sue!
Suggestive hint of merry yawn
How time it happy flies
When having fun, must really run
Farewell and fond goodbyes!
The shortest track it's leafy there
Except the ample rump
It didn't budge, believe and judge
Aunt Bessie's mumbled mump!
In vain young Robin's clearing throat
Or threat of darkest night
A saga bold as yet untold
The traveller sitting tight!
Complacent rub of greasy paw
Recalling weather fine
Exchange of glance, in glad advance
Tradition's tiny line!
Exact the march of feet minute
Direction headed straight
Oh gracious dear, the ample rear
Unwise to pudgy wait!
The warning kind he should have heard
Before the penny fell
A million ants, his seat of pants
Alive and doing well!
Demented flap and who could blame
Afire! his clutching leap
Frenetic wail and hot the tail
That can't and couldn't keep!

20. A SNUG RETREAT
Resplendent castle dazzling bright
Reception very grand
Officials plump about to jump
A forest out of hand!
Impossible the leafy woods
Young Robin's wicked lair
Collective clink, refreshing drink
With changes in the air!
Salute to sketches glad displayed
Improvements big and vast
Official toast, mine gracious host
And rogues who wouldn't last!
A delegation waddling fat
The merchants smiling broad
When saints alive and stars of five
They struck a happy chord!
Believe the leafy echo faint
Ideas a-taking root
Deserving best, their play and rest
In leisure's plump pursuit
So gather 'round the sketches glad
Magnificent their plan
The turrets tall and wall to wall
Of carpet's plushy span!
Luxurious their chambers huge
Idyllic setting green
Resplendent view, the chosen few
Perfecting changes keen!
Complacent foot on table rich
A vassal grovelling meek
Of laden plate and vast estate
At end of gruelling week!
The very least they'd plump expect
From sketches ringing true
Especially when a leafy glen
It's parlous overdue!
Collective slurp and ruby beam
Ingenious little plot
Ambition plus, present it thus
And stop the merry rot!
They'd trim a forest back to size
The cull of towering oak
Hotel and spa of vision far
Three hips and go for broke!
A thousand serfs in willing line
Tradition's sharpest blade
Resounding whack, their hack and hack
In Robin's leafy glade!
Officials axing every tree
To plant a rocky park
The home and house of crested grouse
And morning's happy lark!
Magnificent their splendid pond
Relaxing rod and real
Old forest swine, your right divine
In each and every squeal!
Perfection clinking fond success
A toast of early start
The news a-speed, alas indeed
Young Robin's sinking heart!
Enormous army clomping cruel
Whatever could he do
Invasion brute in mock salute
Of you-know-merry who!
The Sheriff thumbing leafy woods
And certain he would catch
Protesters green, befitting preen
When Sherwood met its match!
Malicious soldiers swarming fierce
Disaster cornered square
Their glad surround that sudden found
Young Robin wasn't there!
Perplexed the prod of bushes dense
'Til someone pointed tall
A turret high, against the sky
The flag that said it all!
Distinctive tree in merry hoist
A castle's perfect swap
Collective squint, official hint
That something better stop!
Aghast the sheriff staring numb
Horrific awful sight
Invaded realm, at cheeky helm
Young Robin's every right!
The villain storming Castle Proud
Behind a sheriff's back
He'd stealthy crept alas and swept
Intent of looting sack!
They'd strip a castle barren-bare
Dilemma mean and vile
Depart, delay, the Sheriff grey
Of face and fading smile!
Unhappy nail in worried gnaw
Before his startled glance
It caught the spin of Robins twin
Across the glad expanse!
Bewildered dart and rub of eye
A realistic pair
bout and 'round on shaky ground
The worse for soldier wear!
Distinctive glimpse that little knew
What paint it can achieve
A merry mask, unequal task
No sheriff could believe!
Young Robins to the merry life
Unfair and most unkind
Demonic clone, a sob and groan
To quit the daily grind!
Collective hell for leather pale
Their castle now secure
Or so they'd thought, poor scuttlers caught
By Robin's merry lure!
A corner dark and cheeky BOO
The Sheriff fainting dead
Collective shriek, occurrence freak
Beneath a shivered bed!
Impossible or so you'd think
But all they solemn swore
By hook and crook and shuddered nook
To Robins by the score!
Illusion glad he merry grinned
The ghost of Robins past
Or something same, a sheriff tame
At long and shivered last
Intrepid slip of castle stairs
Resort on happy hold
The terror-filled, they'd never build
In woods of merry old!
The forest freed for leafy friends
And free! they'd always stay
A grin and wave and Robin brave
On Robin's merry way!
Adventure in the ageless woods
Is anybody there?
A rustle green you've surely seen
But only if you care!
