Ali has lived in Nottingham for the past 36 years, from when he first arrived in England as a little boy.

He has represented the Trent Ward/(Sneinton) since May 1995. Since then he has taken on various roles at the Council which include being Vice-Chair of the East Area Team from 1995-1997, Chair of the Older Persons Joint Sub Committee and has fulfilled the role as Advocate of the Older Persons Service. He has also chaired the Annual Elderly Voices Conference since June 2000.

Under his role as Chair of the Older Persons Services, he has helped introduce various schemes for the City's Senior citizens, for example, a benefit take up campaign whereby hundreds of Pensioners benefitted.

Ali at present works for Notts County Council as a Welfare Rights Officer, where his main role is to fight for benefit rights for the sick, disabled and poor people.

Ali has two sons, one who attends Greenwood Dale Comprehensive, and one who attends Nottingham Trent University and is studying for a degree in an IT course. He also has one daughter who has a degree in Social Science from Trent University.

Ali is a keen supporter of Nottingham Forest Football Club and is a Nottinghamshire County Cricket fan. He is very proud to be a citizen of Nottingham.
