Councillor Jeannie Packer

Sheriff of Nottingham

2007-2008

Was born in the centre of Nottingham at 8 Goldsmith Square, which used to be at the end of Shakespeare Street. Goldsmith Square has now gone and a hotel stands in its place. Jeannie was one of nine children, having seven sisters and one brother, their life wasn’t always easy but was full of fun and laughter, she attended Elms School in St. Ann’s and then went on to St. Bernadette’s in Sneinton.

At 17 Jeannie met Norman, they married and went on to have three children Diana 24, David 20 and Rhys 10. They also have two grand children, Jada 5 and Macy known affectionately as Ethel and Mincy who give them a great deal of joy.

Jeannie has been a supporter of the Labour Party since 1994 and was elected as a Councillor for Bestwood Ward in 2003. She believes the most rewarding part of being a Councilor is being able to serve people, and has been the Labour Group Secretary since 2003 serving on the Licensing Committee, Health Scrutiny Standing Panel, Children & Young People’s Panel and the Local Access Forum, she has also been Chair of Area Two Committee since becoming a Councillor.

A message from Councillor Jeannie Packer:

I am honoured to serve at the fifth female Sheriff of Nottingham in a great City that I love. My husband is not looking forward to being the Sheriff’s ‘Lady’. I am looking forward to my encounters with Robin Hood, that no good vagabond – my sword will be drawn!

I will be a very committed Ambassador for our City, encouraging people to visit, invest and make their homes here, Nottingham is a good and safe place to live.

I am looking forward to welcoming as many people from Nottingham as possible at The Council House, especially the local school children, my husband and I will enjoy greeting them and taking them on conducting tours of the building”.

The Sheriff’s Consort

Is Jeannie’s husband Norman. Norman was born in Wales but has lived in Nottingham since he was two years old, when he had brown curly hair, now he is 53 years old with grey hair going thin on top, but he still loves Nottingham just as much. Norman is one of the volunteer tour guides of The Council House.
