The 23rd Annual Robin Hood Festival

Monday 30th July - Sunday 5th August 2007

This year's Robin Hood Festival has been hailed a huge success.

The event, which ran at the Sherwood Forest Country Park, attracted more than 75,000 visitors and Sunday was the festival's busiest day in more than ten years.

Izi Banton, manager of Sherwood Forest Country Park and Visitor Centre, said: "Visitors came from all over the UK, Europe and many other parts of the world.

"It just goes to show that the Robin Hood legend is alive and well and where it should be - in the heart of Sherwood Forest."

Visitors were given the chance to find out more about Sherwood's Big Lottery bid.

Artists' impressions and a model of the proposed visitor complex were on display near the Major Oak, as well as information about plans to triple the size of the site.

Austin Brady, Forestry Commission regional director and chairman of the Sherwood: the Living Legend Partnership, said: "Nearly 2,000 visitors to the festival pledged support for the bid. We had a lot of positive feedback and support from Notts residents and visitors.

"We're confident that we'll go through to the TV vote in December, but it's important that people sign up."
